DC-to-DC EV charger

It claims to be the world’s first DC-to-DC solar-powered EV charger made by Enteligent of California. The company is accepting preorders now.

As of February 20, 2023, the company launched its solar EV charging technology at the Intersolar North America show in Long Beach, California, and is now taking pre orders. Up to 12.5 kW of DC charging is possible with the TLCEV T1 solar EV charger – twice as fast as many AC EV chargers – and the charger is powered directly by solar panels at home, at work, and at the store.

Chargers for electric vehicles typically run on alternating current (AC) energy generated by the electric grid, allowing them to plug their cars into home chargers. A direct current (DC) is used by electric vehicle batteries, so the charge process must convert the AC to DC power. DC-to-DC conversion results in 20% energy savings, according to Enteligent, and bypasses the EV’s internal converter electronics, speeding up charging.

With the TLCEV T1 charger, EV charging can be done directly into solar canopies and carports. It is designed for use with existing string inverter systems, and can be connected to a microinverter system but not if it is not installed.

With the TLCEV T1, you don’t need to go through any lengthy permitting processes since the charger doesn’t require the grid. It comes with NACS and CCS-1 options; it can also be used with a 25-foot cable.

For its DC-to-DC solar electric vehicle charger, Enteligent raised $7 million in capital in February 2023 from institutional and strategic investors.
